This web site is dedicated to my Yaltie, Joochka*,
and her contributions to the quality of my life.

*Joochka is Russian for "little beetle."  The 'J' is pronounced like the 'g' in rouge.  Add that to the 'oo' for a sound rhyming with 'zoo', but starting with the soft 'j'.  The 'ch' sounds more like 'sh' but with a little of the traditional 'ch' sound mixed in.  'ka' is just a typical Russian 'ka' ending.

Joochka came into my life on December 21st, 2003.   In November 2002 I moved from Connecticut to Clearwater, Florida.  The owners of the house I bought had, what I immediately knew, was the perfect dog - a mix of the Yorkshire Terrier and the Maltese.  Small, cute, loving and playful, their dog took my heart without reservation.  Although the owners wouldn't include their dog with the house sale (yes, I asked), they did let me know how to find the breeder.

The breeder, Crystal, also located in Clearwater, breeds Maltese pure-breds as well as Maltese mixes.  Joochka's father is a 3-pound pure Maltese, and the mother a typical Yorkie.

In November of 2003, I called Crystal and arranged to come by to see the puppy -- she said she only had one left from the current litter of Yorkie-Maltese mix (Yaltie).  To my delight, there were two to choose from when I got there.  One puppy order had been cancelled, and as destiny would have it, Joochka had become available for me to take home.  Amazingly, she came out all white, despite her Yorkie mom.  I signed the papers, paid our deposit and arranged for pick up in December at the age of eight weeks old.
